AusRenoGuides is an independent Australian renovation resource. We publish transparent cost guides and free calculators for kitchen, bathroom, painting and flooring projects — covering Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and the major capitals, with regional adjustments where the data supports it.
Who runs this site
Why we exist
Most renovation content online falls into one of three camps: American sites quoting USD for materials we can’t buy here, vague Australian listicles that say a kitchen costs “anywhere from $10,000 to $50,000” (thanks for nothing), or contractor marketplaces that bury pricing behind lead-capture forms. We built this site to fill the gap with straight, Australia-specific answers homeowners can use before ringing around for quotes.
How we compile our cost data
Our cost ranges are informed by publicly available Australian industry data and guidance, cross-referenced against real quotes we and our readers have received:
- Housing Industry Association (HIA) published construction-cost data
- Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) building and construction statistics
- Master Builders Australia industry guidance
- State licensing authorities — VBA (Victoria), Fair Trading NSW, QBCC (Queensland), CBOS (Tasmania), CBS (South Australia) for trade rate benchmarks
- Published cost guides from licensed Australian renovators and trade publications
- Real scope-of-works pricing from licensed AU builders, cross-checked against the above
We publish indicative ranges rather than single-point prices, with regional multipliers that reflect typical metro-vs-regional labour differences (Sydney runs ~10% above the national average; Adelaide and Hobart roughly 5% below). The source citations sit in the methodology section of each calculator.
How our articles are produced
We’re upfront about this because Google’s own guidance is, too: AusRenoGuides uses AI-assisted research to draft cost guides at scale, with human editorial oversight and cost-data cross-referencing against the sources above. Every calculator’s formulae, every regional multiplier, and every source citation is human-verified before it ships.

Editorial standards (summary)
- Independent. No tradie marketplace, franchise or supplier ownership. No one pays to be featured.
- Reviewed on a rolling cycle. Construction costs move. Each calculator and guide carries a ‘last reviewed’ date, and we revisit ranges as Australian market conditions shift.
- Regional differences called out. A Brisbane quote isn’t the same as a Hobart one — we break it down where the data supports it.
- Errors corrected publicly. If we get something wrong, we fix it and note the correction on the page.
- Indicative, not a quote. Our ranges help you plan and sanity-check quotes — they don’t replace written quotes from licensed trades.
What we don’t do
- Accept payment for reviews or “best of” placements without visible Advertisement or Featured partner labelling
- Operate a tradie marketplace, own a franchise, or take supplier commissions on materials
- Invent credentials, fake author photos, or claim experience we don’t have
- Provide personal renovation quotes — we’re a guide, not a quoting service
