Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how AusRenoGuides.com ("we", "us") collects, uses, discloses and protects personal information when you use our website. We are an independent Australian renovation information site, and we aim to handle personal information in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs). This policy was last updated on 26 October 2026.

What we collect

We collect very little. The information falls into three groups.

  • Information you give us: if you subscribe to our newsletter, your email address. If you email us at editor@ausrenoguides.com, your name, email address and the content of your message. We do not run contact forms, accounts or comment sections.
  • Information collected automatically: our web server keeps standard access logs (your IP address, the date and time, the page requested, the page that referred you, and your browser and device type). We also use Google Analytics, which records how visitors use the site, such as pages viewed, time on page, approximate location, device, browser and referring site.
  • Information that stays on your device: the calculators, the quote comparator and site search run in your browser, and what you type into them is not sent to us. The renovation budget tracker saves your entries in your browser’s local storage on your own device so they are still there when you return. We cannot see them, and you can clear them with the tracker’s reset button or your browser settings.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Cookies and similar technologies

  • Google Analytics: uses cookies in your browser to recognise repeat visits and measure how the site is used. Google’s privacy policy is at policies.google.com/privacy, and you can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
  • Google Fonts: our pages load typefaces from Google’s servers, so your browser sends Google your IP address and browser details when a page loads.
  • Newsletter sign-up: when you submit the sign-up form, your details go directly to Kit (see below).

Most browsers let you block or delete cookies in their settings. Blocking cookies will not stop the site working, but it may limit analytics.

How we use your information

  • Analytics and improvement: to understand which guides and tools are used and to improve content and navigation.
  • Newsletter: to send the monthly newsletter to people who subscribed. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and we only email people who have subscribed.
  • Correspondence: to read and reply to emails, and to correct errors people tell us about.
  • Security and reliability: server logs help us fix faults and protect the site from abuse.

We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information.

Who we share it with

We use these service providers, who handle information under their own privacy policies:

  • Google (Analytics and Fonts): policies.google.com/privacy.
  • Kit (formerly ConvertKit), our newsletter provider, which stores your email address and sends our newsletter: kit.com/privacy-policy.
  • Amazon Web Services, which hosts our web server in Sydney, Australia.

We may also disclose personal information if the law requires it.

Overseas disclosure

Google and Kit may store and process information on servers outside Australia, including in the United States. By subscribing to our newsletter or using the site you accept that these providers handle that information under their own policies. We take reasonable steps to use providers that publish privacy commitments, but we cannot control how they operate.

We do not currently display third-party advertising, run an affiliate programme or sell sponsored placements. If we introduce any of these, we will update this policy first, label the content clearly, and keep it separate from our editorial content. Our editorial policy explains how we keep the two apart.

How long we keep information

  • Server logs: about 14 days, after which they are deleted.
  • Newsletter subscriptions: until you unsubscribe, after which Kit removes you from our mailing list.
  • Emails to us: as long as needed to respond and keep a record of corrections.
  • Analytics: for the retention period set in our Google Analytics account.

We take reasonable steps to protect information from misuse, interference, loss and unauthorised access, such as encrypted connections (HTTPS) and restricted server access. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure.

Your rights

You can ask to access the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it (for example by unsubscribing or emailing us). We will respond within a reasonable time, usually within 30 days. If you think we have breached your privacy, contact us first. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when our practices or the law change. We will update the date at the top of the page, and we will update the policy before we introduce any new type of data collection or advertising.
