Our editorial standards
AusRenoGuides publishes indicative cost guides and calculators for Australian home renovation projects. Because our content is used by homeowners planning real financial decisions (bathrooms, kitchens, and extensions can involve $20,000–$100,000+), we hold ourselves to explicit editorial standards. This page describes them in full.
How our articles are produced
We use AI-assisted research to draft articles efficiently — this lets us cover the full breadth of Australian renovation topics at metropolitan and regional levels. Every article passes through our editorial process:
- Research draft — an AI-assisted first draft based on our compiled Australian industry data (HIA, ABS, MBA, state licensing authorities, published guides from licensed AU renovators).
- Data cross-reference — cost ranges are checked against our source library. Numbers that don’t align are flagged and adjusted or removed.
- Editorial oversight — AD, our editor, oversees the publishing pipeline. Off-topic content, duplicate content, and content that fails a similarity check against existing articles are filtered out at both the topic-selection and pre-publish stages.
- Published with citations — every calculator page shows its methodology and sources; cost-range articles link back to the data guides.
- Rolling review — construction costs move. Each guide carries a “last reviewed” date and is revisited as Australian market conditions shift.
AI transparency
We’re direct about this because Google’s own guidance is: focus on producing helpful, reliable, people-first content — regardless of how it’s produced. What matters is whether the content genuinely helps you. AI-drafted content that’s cross-referenced against real Australian data, editorially overseen, and honestly labelled is not deceptive — it’s the modern equivalent of a small editorial team using every research tool available.
What we don’t do:
- Publish AI-generated content unsupervised or unchecked
- Invent authors, expert credentials, or personal experiences we haven’t actually had
- Fabricate quotes, testimonials, case studies, or reader stories
- Pass off AI-generated images as real photographs of specific jobs
Cost data sources
Our cost ranges draw from:
- Industry data — Housing Industry Association (HIA) construction cost publications; Master Builders Australia industry rates; Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) Building and Construction data.
- State licensing authorities — VBA (Victoria), Fair Trading NSW, QBCC (Queensland), CBOS (Tasmania), CBS (South Australia).
- Federal programs — Clean Energy Regulator (STC values), Cheaper Home Batteries Program, state-based rebate schemes for our solar and battery calculators.
- State legislation — NSW SEPP (Exempt and Complying Development Codes) 2008; Victorian Building Regulations 2018; Queensland Building Regulation 2021 (used by our council approval checker).
- Published cost guides from licensed Australian renovators, trade associations, and mainstream trade publications.
- Real quotes received by our editor (including a scope-of-works from a HIA + MBA member Victorian registered builder for our own bathroom insurance-restoration project) and shared by our readers, cross-checked against the industry benchmarks above.
Corrections policy
We publish corrections openly. If you find something incorrect — a cost that’s out of date, a regulation that’s changed, a claim that doesn’t hold up — email editor@ausrenoguides.com. Verified corrections are applied within 5 business days, and material corrections are noted at the bottom of the corrected article with the date of the change.
Advertising and independence
- Editorial content is independent of any advertising or partner relationships.
- Advertisements and featured partner placements are visibly labelled as such — always with the words Advertisement or Featured partner.
- We do not operate a tradie marketplace, own a franchise, or take supplier commissions on materials mentioned in guides.
- We do not accept payment for favourable coverage. If a business wants visibility, they can advertise (labelled). They cannot buy a positive editorial review.
What we don’t do
- Provide personal renovation quotes — we’re a research resource, not a quoting service.
- Recommend specific tradies as individuals — we don’t run a directory or endorse individual businesses in editorial coverage.
- Give legal or council-specific advice — regulations vary by council and state. Check directly with your local authority or a licensed professional.
- Guarantee any cost estimate — our ranges are indicative and should be sanity-checked against written quotes from licensed AU trades.
